Community Projects

NPO Wushwini Pan African Centre

Situated in Ngcolosi road Durban

WUSHWINI is an award winning arts and heritage centre that has been bringing hope to the rural community of Inanda and surrounds.  Situated beside the scenic Inanda Dam, the Wushwini Community falls under the traditional leadership of Chief Bhengu, who is the Chairperson of the House of Traditional Leaders in KZN.

This poverty stricken area has a high rate of unemployment, gender based violence and many orphans and like most of South Africa, it is also faced with the very real problem of youth employability.

With this in mind Jerry Pooe, had the idea of establishing a “beacon of hope and light” in this very needy community.  A haven for youth to develop and hone their skills in the arts and culture space.

We are proud to have partnered with Wushwini Pan African Centre on a number of projects such as:

(LUAH) Light up a home initiative

Bringing solar energy to rural and disadvantaged communities (Registration NPO 233-226)

LUAH, short for “Light Up A Home” is a charity and as such there is no ownership. Our BEE status is level 1 (almost 100% of the beneficiaries of our charities are black and previously disadvantaged). We also issue Section 18a Tax Certificates for every donation.

Our Mission statement is “To improve lives and create opportunities through deploying solar based systems in disadvantaged African rural communities without access to electricity”. Over 1,300 units have been provided to the African Conservation Trust, other charities and commercial organisations some of these include Sappi, Balwin Properties, The Thanda Foundation, KP Projects, Exigent Security, The Inside Edge, Sibaya Community Trust, Vision 153 , SLG and ASP Ropes.
